APTOS >> A sting to catch unlicensed construction contractors resulted in 14 citations Wednesday and Thursday, the Santa Cruz County District Attorney’s Office reported.

Investigators from the DA’s Office had been keeping track of unlicensed contractors who posed as licensed contractors, said Aron Tripp, an investigator with the District Attorney’s Office. The DA’s office worked with investigators from the California Contractors State Licensing Board and detectives from the California Department of Insurance Fraud Division.

Investigators posed as homeowners and contacted some of the businesses for a project estimate in Aptos.

Seventeen contractors were contacted, and seven were written misdemeanor citations for contractor license violations and for workers’ compensation violations.
